Old Mans Beard Spanish Moss Tillandsia Usneoides Plant
One small baggie filled with freshly harvested live plant. Approximately 5grams total.
I am sure most folks have seen this guy before. It is the famous Airplant or Spanish Moss.
Most folks grow it as a curiosity these days, but historically it was used as a packing material for furniture, commercial manufacturing of car seats(more that 10,000 tonnes of processed fiber stuffing in 1939 alone!), fiber, insulation, packaging(like bubble wrap) and in evaporative cooling and air conditioning units. Traditional filling for voodoo dolls, talismans, ornaments, and it is sometimes used in Hawaiian Lei and flower decorations.
You can remove and eat the minute little flower stem, but it is not really worth the effort. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother with it, as it is super easy to look after.
Just drape it in a tree, or on an arch, and let it do its thing. Being a bromeliad it will survive pretty much anything with no care at all.
If you want more flowers and faster growth just give it a squirt with the hose every now and then, or put it in a high humidity spot like a green house. Water it and keep it in a green house and the growth is really rapid. Awesome!
There you have it, another curiosity for the collection.
Grown by us organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!
