Chia Chiabaan White Salvia Hispanica Seeds
Big packet of 250+ seeds from this very useful and attractive herb.
Beautiful delicious and prolific, with a purple or blue flower. Self-seeds everywhere in the garden here.
We originally got a small amount from the markets many years ago now, and we have just been letting them self-seed ever since.
When we want some, we just harvest what we need, as we staggered the first couple plantings, there is always some about out there somewhere.
Such a beautiful and useful plant that needs no care and grows like a weed. It’s a wonder everyone doesn’t grow their own?
It has so many positives, besides just its beauty, including being the world’s richest source of Omega-3, essential for good health and brain functioning.
They contain levels of Omega-3 and Omega-6 at scores of 3:1 respectively.
It’s also 25% higher fibre than flax seed, 8x more Omega-3 than salmon, 3x more Iron than spinach, 30% more antioxidants than blueberries, 6x more Calcium than milk and 15x more magnesium than broccoli! Chia seed also contains high levels of Iron, Protein, and other micro-nutrients.
The leaves are also an effective appetite suppressant. They taste great in salads with a vinegarette. Just use them as you would any fresh herb. (I have to say it has a quite mild, but noticeable effect on me!)
As the seeds are up to 30% oil I like to blend them with a small amount of lemon juice and salt pepper and make a nutty mayonnaise or tahini style spread. It’s a delicious and really healthy alternative to the traditional spreads!
The leaves make a nice change to basil, oregano or parsley on pizza and pasta dishes.
That’s it I guess, so many good things to say about Chia I must have forgotten something……..
Grown by us organically, no nasties, no chems, no problems!!!
