Fairy Castle Cactus Acanthocereus Tetragonus Cereus Hildmannianus

1x large well-rooted degrafted cactus!

This fella is most commonly sold under name Fairy Castle, and quite commonly botanically identified as Acanthocereus tetragonus.
Luckily that’s a mistake cos all Acanthocereus species are classed as prohibited weeds here in QLD Australia.
I have also seen it called Green finger or Fairytale castle. Despite the labeling, the real botanical lineage of this fella is likely Cereus hildmannianus subspecies uruguayanus. Unlike Acanthocereus, it is very often spineless, has a very similar pattern of branching, identical fruit, seeds, and flowers which is the real clincher.
They are not Acanthocereus despite the nursery trade commonly selling them as such and even before I understood the why that bit that was pretty obvious to me cos too many sides, too fat and chunky, too many areolas, too much pupping, def Cereus not Acantho.

This fella is super popular in the nursery trade and its easy to see why.
It has very few spines and the ones it does get are soft, bending under pressure. Handles full sun and sheltered positions, and it even does ok in sunny indoor locations. Quite resistant to rust and fungal dramas, and very easy to propagate or graft.
Cool radiating geometric pup growth pattern and because I use carefully prepared dragonfruit rootstock to bulk them up in size while only babies, the now degrafted plant you buy from me are much bigger and stronger than had they been grown from cuttings alone.

They also have a large well established butt of roots to ensure it gets off to a great start once I ship it over to your place.
Just plant it into a well-draining mineral rich mix and don’t water for a couple weeks. Keep it on the dry side initially, you can’t really go wrong.

It’s been grown out on its own roots now for many months and if you give it a nice well draining soil mix it will give you many many years of enjoyment.

Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!

NOT FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA or TASMANIA due to added expense and drama involved.

If you decide to try and buy anyway, this item will not be sent. 🙂
