Spaghetti Squash Cucurbita Pepo Vine Seeds
This is quite a cool squash, and there are 10+ seeds in each packet.
Small vine and with heaps of fruit. Normally 5-10 per plant.
But, if you even more though, the trick is to bury the stem under a handful of soil every couple meters. This provides a larger root mass, and in turn even more fruit!
The fruit themselves are about as big as a small football, yellow skinned with a flesh texture just like Spaghetti. Seriously!
Just poke a couple holes in them and nuke or boil for 10 minutes. Dump the seeds and scrape out onto a plate with a fork.
Looks like a plate of spaghetti and tastes and texture of vermicelli.
Pretty cool hey!
Wait until they are bright yellow before picking them because at that stage they are fantastic for stuffing and baking.
Each fruit will feed one or two people. Just cut in half and bake in the oven at 180-200c for 30mins, with either chopped capsicum, tomato and chilli, or leftovers like mince or risotto or best of all, a blob of bolognaise in the middle!
It’s the absolute best way use up leftovers, it’s adding extra vegetables to your meal, and with a bit of cheese on top, and a pinch of herbs it looks classy as, if I do say so myself.
Restaurant quality and cheap as it comes!
As the vine is much smaller than your standard pumpkin or squash, it’s perfect for a suburban city garden.
They store great for months. Just leave a little stem on them if you’re going to store them, about 2cm is fine.
Have a crack at them, they are pretty damn cool!
