Striped Togo Red Eggplant Solanum Melongena Seeds

Packet of 10+ home grown organic seeds!

This is an interesting small red and green striped eggplant that is super easy to grow.
It is perennial continuously producing fruit from small bushy plants year after year. Awesome for pots and with the beautiful colours it makes a decent ornamental species in it’s own right.

They are only a small fruit which I reckon is ideal as you can just wander outside and grab a couple to add a little colour and oomph to a basic cheap pasta dish. The normal big black eggplants are great too but its often hard to know what to do with the left overs as they are always too big for just me and the Mrs.

If you allow these little red and green fellas to fully ripen they go bright fluoro chilli red, and at that stage of ripeness they add a bitterness that I really like especially when paired with oily or salty antipasto and pickles.

I will be labeling it the same way I received it many years ago to minimize dramas with customs and quarantine. That’s the common name Striped Togo and botanically Solanum melongena. That said I very strongly believe it along with many other less common aubergine, brinjal or eggplants are actually Solanum aethiopicum and I also reckon this one is actually Striped Toga, a very well known and common variety of West African origin. I’ve been trying to get confirmation of this for years now but I have now just given up and will be going with the flow.

Germination is easy and in warm weather it takes less than a month for the majority to pop with the remaining ~30% coming up here and there over the next couple months.

Organically grown by me and the Mrs, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!
