Nira Japanese Garlic Onion Shallot Allium Tuberosum Seeds
Big packet of 50+ fresh seeds!
Great plant to have and its so versatile.
Ideal in Sushi and Gyoza as it has slight garlicky taste that the more common shallots and spring onions lack.
Numerous traditional medicine uses in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as a treatment for bladder infection and to treat kidney or bladder stones, dysuria (insufficient or painful urination), and even Gonorrhea!
The leaves are also used as a medicinal supplement that’s said to increase the production of breast milk. The whole plant is edible, raw or cooked in salads, soups, curries, rice balls, stirfries, stews you name it!
If you would use an onion traditionally in the meal, we substitute with Nira, as its much easier to grow, and can be harvested any time we need it.
Just cut off the top and its reshooting within a couple days.
We have a patch down the back in the scrub that never gets any water, fertilizer or attention at all, and its doing fine. I harvest it occasionally when I do a big stew or soup, and want to freeze up some meals for later.
We also have a large pot overflowing with it at the back door.
Every time we need some we just snip a handfull off.
One big handfull Nira is approximately 1/2 a large onion and 2 small shallots and a small clove garlic in size and flavour, but a hell of a lot less mess!
I much prefer it to boring old onions, and there’s no tears when chopping it up either.
You can just snip it up with a pair of scissors!
Grown by us organically, no nasties, no chems, no problems!!!
