Wild Turmeric Spring Ginger Curcuma Aromatica Root

Packet containing 1x small, rare, and very expensive rhizome!

These are too thick for shipping as a “Large Letter <20mm”. They must be sent as a “Parcel” and this is why they are not cheap anymore.

Have to say, I’m a fan of this fella and very glad a couple customers brought it to my attention!
It took me a while to track down and in my search I have seen it called adavi pasupu, aranya haridra, arisina kadarsan, aromatic turmeric, banhaldar, banhalud, banhardi, cochin turmeric, Curcuma wenyujin, Curcuma zedoaria, jangli haldi, jungli haldar, jungli haldi, kapurkachli, kasthuri turmeric, kasturi, kasturimanjal, kasturi manjal, kasturi manjal manja, kasturi mannal, kasturi pasupu, kattumanjal, musk turmeric, pasuppu, ranhalad, ranhallad, round zedoary, safran des indes, spring curcuma, spring ginger, vana haridra, vanhaldi, van haridra, van vesar, vanya haridra, vedihalad, wild turmeric, wild turmeric, and yellow zedoary.

It is very rarely available in a more ornamental dark pink flowering form, but this is the even less common mostly white and green flower form, with very bright yellow orange tuberous roots.

It is a very fast growing super productive species used extensively in cosmetics all throughout India, Sri Lanka, China and Japan, and it is also used as a medicinal species for a whole heap of stuff too.

While it does contain curcumin and several other related chemicals which is what makes Turmeric Species such famed medicinal species, the most interesting bit about this one is the very large % of volatile oils like alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, 1, 8-cineol, isofurano-germacrene, isoborneol, beta-curcumene, borneol, ar-curcumene, xanthorrhizol, germacrone, and curzerenone.
These are at levels all the way up to 8% which is far higher than in any other relatives and may help explain its strong anti-inflammatory effects, and faster wound healing in animal studies.

I don’t know about any of that and I just make a sweet tea out of it.
To me it tastes mildly spicy and hot, a little bitter, camphorous, and kind of mildly offensive in a Chinese medicine kind of way? To my eye that’s a good thing to shake up the system here and there. With a little sugar or honey the Mrs says it tastes exactly like a couple different medicinal teas and cough drops commonly sold in Japan.

Word of warning, it stains everything fluoro bright yellow so don’t spill it or use with anything plastic unless you want it permanently dyed!

Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems no nasties, no problems!!!

NOT FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA or TASMANIA due to added expense and drama involved.

If you decide to try and buy anyway, this item will not be sent. 🙂
