Heal All Prunella Vulgaris Seeds
Packet of 200+ seeds from this awesome little medicinal species!
I better start by saying it is classed as a weed in Victoria and Western Australia so don’t try to buy it if you live there, and no matter where you live make sure you grow it responsibly as it can get away from you.
I haven’t had that issue here where I am as it’s too dry and rocky, but definitely keep that in mind.
Some folks do consider it a major weed.
Why grow it? That bit’s easy.
It grows easily and makes a very decent pot herb.
It has heaps of purple flowers that both the native and European bees love, and it has a huge history of uses medicinally for pretty much everything.
Diarrhoea, sore throat, fever, herpes, even serious more stuff like internal bleeding, and heart irregularities.
As a poultice it is great for infected punctures and for softening the skin helping remove splinters and this is the only medical use I have personally tried.
TCM used it for chronic diseases especially of the respiratory tract and there is some modern evidence of anti-viral effects with studies ongoing.
This is just a small snippet of the many medicinal uses of this species.
While I can’t recommend any of them as I haven’t done it myself, I can say its many common names reflect this very extensive history.
Names include heal all, all heal, self heal, carpenter’s herb, hook heal, slough heal, heart of the earth, brunella, brownwort, blue curls, blue Lucy, carpenters weed, dragonhead, Hercules woundwart, hookweed, sicklewort, slough-heal, thimble-flower, thimbleweed, wild sage, etc etc etc..
The exact origin of the plant is uncertain, but it is a native to big chunks of Europe, Africa and Asia, India and America.
It has been spread around to gardens pretty much everywhere else by us humans for both it’s beauty as an ornamental, and because of its myriad of uses.
Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!
