Grandpa Otts Morning Glory Ipomoea Purpurea Seeds
Packet of 50+ seeds from this beautiful ornamental vine!
Like most of the morning glories this fella is super easy to grow and looks amazing.
This fella is not a declared noxious weed in any state of Australia, and is much easier to control than Ipomoea cairica “Common morning glory” or Ipomoea indica “Purple Morning Glory”.
Both those guys regrow from the roots and strike easily from garden waste, where this guy only grows from seeds, and if you pull the plant out, or cut the root with a shovel it kills it immediately.
That said, it is a little bit more unruly than Ipomoea tricolor “Heavenly Blue” and Ipomoea nil “Scarlet Ohara”. Please be responsible about it, and don’t let them set seeds if you don’t want volunteers coming up.
Just snip the flower buds off as they wilt.
It prevents seeds setting and increases both the total number of flowers, and length of flowering time!
I grow them in large pots and let them sprawl over the guinea pig and chook houses. Ideal for that as they are one of the few plants they don’t readily eat, and they don’t need any special care or extra watering.
Like many Ipomoea species the triangle seeds have a history of use as a psychedelic drug, which I in no way recommend, and apparently it contains large amounts of naturally occurring LSA. I reckon that’s half the reason that they never get eaten by the critters and insects?
