Wing Bean Asparagus Pea Psophocarpus Tetragonolobus Seeds

Packet of 5+ home grown seeds!

Very ornamental vine this one, and not only that, it’s great chewing too!

Beautiful orchid like flowers and striking fat multi-sided pods.

Know by a multitude of names like goa bean, asparagus pea, four angled bean, four cornered bean, Manila bean, Mauritius bean, Shikaku-mame, Princess pea (which the Mrs really likes) and the “One species supermarket” which sums it up really well.

Serously folks, permaculturalists, preppers, selfsufficiency types, vegetarians and even just backyard gardeners, you should all be looking into this fella. It is quite an asset.

The pods are best eaten small like most standard types of bean, but unlike most beans, the whole plant is useful.

The four cornered pods can be eaten raw or cooked and the fully ripe and dried beans have a nutritional content about the same as Soya bean!

That’s an average about 35% protein and 17% vegetable oils by weight!.

Once dried the seeds have to be cooked like you do with Kidney beans so they are best used in stews and soups.

The leaves and immature flowers buds have 10%-15% protein and are again edible as is fresh from the garden.

Not only is every above ground part edible, the root of the plant produces a tuber with about 20% protein, far exceeding that of most other root crops.

To put that into perspective the humble potato has only 2% at best!

It is originally a native to New Guinea, but due to its hardiness, disease resistance, and multitude of uses it is grown all around the world.

Not only is it high in protein it also contains respectable amounts of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, manganese, phosphorus, and a heap of other nutritional components.

Research is ongoing into the use as a fish food in commercial aquaculture which would make a great change to the wild caught “feed or trash fish” they currently use.

There you have it folks, a real beauty.

Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!
