Monstrose White Fruit Apple Cactus Cereus Plant

Packet containing 1x rooted chunk of monstrose apple cactus!

This cutting grown clone has been removed from a particularly special plant, and it will be pretty similar to the example images.
It has been hardened off and well-rooted over many months and all the hard work has been done for you. I will take it out of the 125mm pot, remove the soil and send it bare-rooted, well-protected and wrapped in paper.

On arrival all you need to do is plant it roots down into a nice sandy well draining soil mix and place it in a warm sheltered position for a month.
Do NOT water it for at least two weeks to prevent any areas damaged in transit from rotting, but that’s pretty much it. After a month you can gradually introduce it to full sunlight and once in a warm sunny position growth is very rapid.

This is a special selection that I reckon is pretty awesome for a few different reasons.
It has a very variable and lumpy looking growth pattern that looks really cool.
Unlike most monstrose Cereus cactus forms I have this one flowers heaps several times a year.
Also unlike most others this one often self-pollinates meaning huge tasty red skinned white fleshed fruit without the need for any stuffing around!

It will set fruit at a higher rate if you cross-pollinate with an unrelated plant, but it will still set quite a lot without it which is very unusual for the genus.

The fruit are a lot like a dragonfruit except firmer with less juice and a more sherbety flavour, and if you wait until they split open the sugar content increases heaps. You can eat them as soon as the skin colours up bright red and at that early unsplit stage the flavour has more tropical banana and melon flavours whereas when split it is more mild as the sweet sherbet caramel sugars take over. Both ways are awesome!

I have… jesus, I was gonna say dozens but it has to be 100 or so different forms now that I think of it?
Yeah, I guess I have ~100 different Cereus in all sorts of growth and fruit combinations from collectors all over the country, and this is the first one to be added to the website. If you want to buy a decent mix of seeds from them this is the link.
The reason why it is still only the first to be added is because I’m very happy with this one in particular.
The cuttings grows fast, it is quite self-fertile, it fruits prolifically, tastes great, and it has monstrose lumpy growth too.

For all round usefulness and beauty it is very worthy of a spot in your collection.
Drought tolerant and hardy, night blooming fruiting cactus really are the ideal choice for here in Australia I reckon. They do great in pots and even better plant in the ground. Provided the soil drains well or if it doesn’t you just plant them on a mound it’s pretty hard to go wrong.

Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!

NOT FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA or TASMANIA due to added expense and drama involved.

If you decide to try and buy anyway, this item will not be sent. 🙂
