Packet of 100+ home grown seeds!

The common name “Henna” is a Persian word, which describes this small flowering plant (Lawsonia inermis). It is commonly found all over the world, including India, Pakistan, Morocco, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Egypt and Bangladesh.

It’s other names include hina, the mignonette tree, and Egyptian privet. It is a flowering plant and the sole species of the Lawsonia genus. The name henna also refers to the dye prepared from the plant and the art of temporary tattooing based on those dyes.

Henna has been used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, and fingernails, as well as fabrics including silk, wool, and leather. The name is used in other skin and hair dyes, such as black henna and neutral henna, neither of which are derived from the henna plant.
Estimates of allergic reactions to “Henna” range between 3% and 15%.

True henna, Lawsonia inermis does NOT cause any of these injuries.

“Black henna” made with PPD can cause lifelong sensitization to coal tar derivatives. “Black henna” which is commonly made with gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid, paint thinner, and benzene has been linked to adult leukemia.

“Neutral henna” is made from a completely different family of plants, from the “Senna” family. Many members of this family are toxic.

Do not ever use a commercially bought Henna powder as most contain adulterants, many of which are toxic.

True henna is only made from the dried crushed and powdered leaves from Lawsonia inermis, which are then mixed with a mild acid to release and activate the colour component, which is the called “Lawsone”.

It is then applied to the skin nails and hair in intricate patterns and left for a few hours to soak in.

Lemon juice, tea and coffee are all common acids used to release the Lawsone from the powdered leaf, and there are millions of regional recipes online.

It’s an easy plant to grow, but takes about a month to germinate and doesn’t like really low temps.

That’s about it folks.

Organically grown by me and the Mrs, no chems, no nasties, no dramas!
