Strawberry Indian Mock False Berry Potentilla Duchesnea Indica Seeds
Packet of 50+ tiny little red seeds!
This fella is great, really prolific fruiting and fast growing.
Grows just like a normal strawberry, just quite a bit hardier with smaller fruit.
The fruit themselves are not sweet and acidic like a traditional strawberry, much more mild and sort of creamy? If you expecting a strawberry flavour when you first taste them a lot of folks are shocked and disappointed, but if you have a crack with no expectations they are really quite good. Blindfolded taste test and I reckon there wouldn’t be any folks that didn’t like them. But yeah, I have to admit, when you’re expecting one thing and get another it is a bit of a shock.
They have the texture of a Guava or Papaya, and the seeds pop in your mouth like little poppyseeds. Really mild flavour, imagine a non-acidic, mild and creamy berry, maybe with a touch of watermelon I guess?
Hard to explain, not very sweet with only 3.4% sugar verses the standard strawberry’s 4.9%, but it is bloody good!
Quite high in Vitamin C too, with 6.3 mg of Vitamin C for every 100 ml of juice.
Huge potential as a medicinal herb and it is currently being studied for its ability to stop the HIV virus and some forms of cancer from spreading.
The fresh leaves can be crushed and applied externally as a poultice, and it India and China it is used in the treatment of swelling inflammation, boils, absesses, burns, weeping eczema, ringworm, snake and insect bites and traumatic injuries. The leaf and immature flower juices are also used internally to activate the blood circulation.
I just eat it.
The leaves are edible making a great salad herb, or stirfry vegetable. Not bitter and I reckon they should be promoted a bit more.
It grows super easy, great little attractive and tasty fruit, delicious productive leaf crop.
