Datura Ferox Fierce Long Spined Thorn Apple Seeds

Datura Ferox Fierce Long Spined Thorn Apple Seeds

Packet of 40+ poisonous home grown seeds!

This is another interesting Datura species and just like all the others it is strictly ornamental, very poisonous and not a food, and it can be weedy if you don’t keep an eye on it.

It produces beautiful white flowers and looks very similar to Datura stramonium.
It also hybridizes with it very easily and crossing it with my other Datura to see what they produce was the main motivation for adding this fella to my collection.

Now that I do have it I have noticed it makes a very effective trap crop attracting all the beetles from my nearby Solanum and Physalis.

Unfortunately it means this guy is constantly defoliated and looks very sad indeed, but it also means much less insect issues with surrounding edible species.

Another thing I have noticed is that most of the beetles that do eat this Datura, end up sitting around lethargic and I strongly believe it messes with their ability to reproduce.

Flea beetles for example, a real bane of eggplant are drawn from my nearby eggplants to this guy.
They hop over and eat a heap of leaves, but after that they just sit there and they don’t hop away like they normally would when I try to squish them.

My guess is they are stoned or poisoned and despite being covered in them, they never eat enough to actually kill the Datura.

It still manages to flower and set seeds and I grow them in pots and move them around where they are needed.
I use cheap 9lt buckets with a hole in the bottom as pots and the handle makes moving them around where needed a real breeze.

Like the other Datura species I grow these guys are very toxic and here I use them to keep the roos and wallabies away and protect nearby plants.
They have a strong toxic repellent odor, but as a bonus these ones in particular also attract and mess with the leaf eating insects too.
A very unexpected and handy surprise!

Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!

Datura Metel Double Orange Mandala Seeds

Datura Metel Double Orange Mandala Seeds

Packet of 15+ seeds from this beautiful yellow peach coloured poisonous flowering plant.

I have been told it may be the “Chorantha” variety, I am not sure so am just labelling as “Double orange mandala” as the original seller sold it to me as that.

I have grown it for three generations now and so far it breeds true with no variation.
EDIT* 20+ genereations now, still stable, breed true to form.

Double peach to yellow coloured flowers with an amazing smell, on a small stocky little plant.

Large, blunt spiked fleshy “thorn apple” style seed pod, accented with a dark green blush. It splits open from the top or sides, but very unevenly, and it doesn’t really dump its seeds, they sit intact, and if not carefully removed they often go mouldy, unlike most of the other relatives which it could be confused with. When the pod covering gets loose and the seeds become exposed, remove the whole pod, and mash it up in a bucket or bowl, then sun dry the seeds to stop mould forming. Easy as, but unless you do that, the sugars and moisture makes the whole thing rot 99.99% of the time.

For this reason I doubt this guy could ever become weedy, as it doesn’t self seed for me without careful human intervention.

Very beautiful, very hardy, any like a lot of other ornamental flowering plants very very poisonous if consumed.

Do not use this plant for anything except admiring, and with a bloom and structure like this, that is plenty of reason to own it.

Despite some folks saying otherwise, the whole family of Datura Species really is no use as a recreational drug at all, as they are not hallucinogenic, they are toxic deliriants. Hallucinogens make you “trip”, deliriants make you insane, literally.

If your intention is ingestion, in anyway, go bugger off and buy it somewhere else, as I really don’t need the drama.

If you are after a really striking ornamental, with awesome smelling, pale peach coloured flowers and striking pods, that grows easily and blooms continually, then this is what you want.

Grown organically by me and the Mrs, no chems, no nasties, no dramas!!!

Datura Metel Fastuosa Double Purple Blackberry Seeds

Packet of 15+seeds from this awe-inspiring, poisonous plant!

Striking swirl of dark purple, almost black ribs, with creamy white internal edges, and a smell that is seriously divine.

Large quite ornamental fleshy “thorn apple” style seed pot, accented with a deep purple blush. It splits open from the bottom to dump its seeds, unlike many of the other Datura relatives which it occasionally confused with.

Very beautiful, very hardy, and like a lot of other ornamental flowering plants very very poisonous if consumed.

Datura Stramonium Tatula Jimson Weed Seeds

Datura Stramonium var Tatula Jimson Weed Seeds

Packet of 100+ seeds of another angry plant!

This one is the “Tatula” variant of Datura stramonium, or the violet/lavender form, depending who you speak too. (Datura stramonium “tatula”)

Its just as toxic as the standard, the only difference being the purple in the flower and the stems, making it a much more attractive addition to your garden.

It is not Datura inoxia or the other Ornamental Datura species.

This one grows like a weed(seriously!), and has an amazing history of uses, both as a herbal remedy and as a deliriant, and has been responsible for numerous hospitalizations and deaths via overdose. The levels of tropane alkaloids, atropine, hyoscyamin, and scopolamine vary greatly from plant to plant, day to day, hour by hour, making a “safe dose” impossible to estimate without chemical analysis.

That, and the fact that its not a “high” its a toxin, that can create delirium, hyperthermia, tachycardia, mydriasis, massive UV sensitivity, blindness, and blackouts that can last from several days to a couple weeks, and in some cases cause permanent detachment with reality, death by misadventure or toxicity, makes it absolutely USELESS as a “party/recreational drug”.

Just looking at that angry spiky bastard should tell you its not gonna be a fun time, and just the smell alone is enough to have a seriously nauseating affect on me.

Here is an amazing detailed article about historical uses as an asthma treatment, and explaining the chemical components and how they work. Its a big wall of text but very interesting and well worth a look>  “Divine Stramonium”

So I have told you straight up its very poisonous, and its not a safe for ingestion in any way shape or form, so why do I have it?

I have it as I like its history, I like its angry form and its toxicity (some folks have snakes or tigers, I have plants), its a great bait crop for attracting the little “tobacco/flea beetles” that love to attack my eggplants. It totally keeps away all moths and butterflies here for about a meter all around, so if you keep them in pots and move them out to where your lettuce and green vegies are, no caterpillars or inchworms.

The roos and nearly everything, doesn’t like the smell so its a great deterrent, as are the spikes. (I put them out next to sweet smelling ripening melons and it works 40-70% of the time. Not bad considering they ALL get eaten without the pots of Datura there)

Its very easy to control as it doesn’t re-shoot from the roots, and hand pulling or just removing the pods and chucking them in the fire, fermenting in a bucket of water, or hot composting is all you need to do.

Don’t just bin them as the seeds will grow years later at the local landfill and spread like a plague.

I had a huge problem with “lawn grubs” getting into my raised garden beds and eating the uncomposted leaf matter and then my baby plants roots. These guys put a stop to that!

I grew a heap of datura in the bed before I filled it with compost, cardboard and good soil.

First I made the frame work, planted with Datura Stramonium, and when it started to flower I mowed it down, covered in cardboard as normal and layered soil, compost, cardboard, soil, compost cardboard to the top, planting my seedlings as normal.

Have not even seen 1 lawn grub, several months later, and there are bucketsful of the buggers in the other 2 beds right next to it, merrily eating all the root shoots on my struggling seedlings.

I will be definitely doing that in all new beds from now on!

Plenty of data online if you want to do some more research, but remember, even if you see 100 folks saying they take it as a drug and its great and safe and blah blah blah, that doesn’t mean there isn’t another 10,000 folks who cant tell you to stay away from it, as they lost all their marbles and are still out there looking for them or just died in the process…….

Seriously, if your intention is ingestion please don’t buy these from me.

Its a very useful plant in the right situation, but its not to be handled lightly or disrespected, and has major weed potential if mismanaged.

Grown by us organically, no nasties, no chems, no problems!!!

Datura Inoxia Devils Angels Trumpet Moon Flower Seeds

Datura Inoxia Devils Angels Trumpet Moon Flower

50+seeds from this beautiful and potentially deadly ornamental.

Striking white flowers that smell awesome of a night, and large furry leaves with an almost purple tinge to the joints and veins.

Large fleshy “thorn apple” style seed pot that splits open from the bottom to dump its seeds, unlike its close relative Datura stramonium, which it often confused with.

Very beautiful, very hardy, very very dangerous.

It is not the other plant I sell that also has the common name of “Moonflower“.

Here is some data I pinched from the internet>>>

“The most obvious item is the ominous Devil’s Trumpet name. Many have heard of the Angel’s Trumpet flower, in which the blooms droop down. Well, my friends, the Devil’s Trumpet blooms upward as in a trumpet from not heaven, but hell. Devil’s trumpet is grown in all but the coldest climates as a flowering ornamental, due to its incredible hardiness. From ancient times right up to today it is used in shamanic rituals and in admixtures.

Today, people frequently experiment with it for the hallucinogenic effect, but the results are so unpleasant (dark terrifying visions, disorientation, amnesia, blurred vision, dry mouth, and incontinence) that they seldom recommend the experience.

Overdoses can result in death. As in, this stuff can literally kill you!

The plant has been used to treat impotence, asthma, diarrhea, as an analgesic, to control fever, kill parasites, and as a drug for criminal purposes. Devil’s trumpet contains a host of phytoactive chemicals including atropine, hyoscyamine, hyoscine, scopolamine, norscopolamine, meteloidine, hydroxy-6- hyoscyamine, tiglic esters of dihydroxytropine, and a number of withanolides. It causes erratic behavior and even death of livestock that have eaten it, but it is seldom a problem for pastured animals because they carefully avoid consuming it.”

Do not use this plant for anything except admiring.

It’s no use as a recreational drug at all, as it is not a hallucinagen, it is a deliriant. Hallucinagens make you “trip”, deliriants make you insane, literally.

If your intension is ingestion, in any way, go bugger off and buy it somewhere else, as I really don’t need the drama.

If you are after a really striking ornamental, with awesome white flowers and large nasty looking spiky pods.
Something that is easy to grow and quite unique, then this is what you want.

Cup of Gold Chalice Vine Solandra Maxima Cuttings

Cup of Gold Chalice Vine Solandra Maxima Cuttings

2 unrooted cuttings of this amazing beautiful and easy to grow plant!

It produces large balloon type flowers on mass a bit bigger than my fist, and then later that night these unfurl and open into huge glossy yellow flowers.
They look spectacular and almost plastic the following morning, and as the day goes on the flowers get a truly golden metallic sheen to them.

They look like gold foil cups a bit smaller than your head by mid afternoon, and they have a mild coconut and syrup aroma.

Breathtakingly beautiful, and super easy to grow, despite being relatively uncommon.

I am told they produce white fruit that later ripen to yellow and finally red, but despite a heck of a lot of searching I have never found anyone that has seed set here in Australia?

Overseas back in the day these fruit and even the flowers were once used in the traditional medicines of central Mexico and northern Central America where it was know as tree of the wind, kieli or kieri.

It was used only in black magic and considered an evil plant, mostly used to induce a trace or for divination and to a lesser extent as an aphrodisiac.
Much the same way as Datura and Angel’s trumpets were with very similar effects.

Now I don’t recommend any of that, and none of it is edible, but as an ornamental it’s a real beauty!

What you are buying from me is 2 small unrooted cutting, and to grow them all you do is get some nice well draining soil or potting mix, and shove the bottom half of the cuttings in the soil like the picture.
Fast forward a month and it will be sending out roots, in another month it will be sending up new shoots, and a year later it will be a large healthy bush, covered in flowers!

It’s very drought hardy, it didn’t seem to be effected by flooding despite being underwater for a couple weeks a few different times now.

The bees and butterflies love it and the finches and willy wag tails set up camp in the branches.

In my experience it does not produce seeds or fruit ever, despite crossing out with unrelated parent plants from all over OZ, and hand pollinating at all times of the day and night for many months on end.

The bees hammer it daily, yet I have never fruit or seed set.

No idea why, but despite this inability to travel, it is still considered a weed by some folks further south.

It starts off as a bush about 1m-2m round, but if you don’t give it a yearly trim is sends up long climbing branches. These can just be snipped off and used to start new plants.

Technically its considered a vine but once large to my eye its growth is more like a dragonfruit or cacti, except without and thorns or spikes.

That’s about it I guess?
Another beauty for the collection.
