Weeping Lilly Pilly Syzygium Floribundum Waterhousea Floribunda Seeds
Packet of 15+ whole fruit each containing one or more viable seed!
Also known as Waterhousia floribunda, Eugenia ventenatii, Syzigium floribunda, but most commonly just Weeping Lilly Pilly.
Awesome seasonal fruit that keeps producing for a couple months and produces masses of flowers.
The white to pink skinned pink to purple fleshed fruit tastes exactly like green apple and flowery perfume.
It’s a strong flavour and a whole host of species love eating the fruit.
It looks great even when not in fruit or flower and it has really attractive looking pink and green foliage.
For that reason there is a huge demand for them and it is still one of the most common grown ornamental Aussie natives.
Parks and gardens all over Australia grow this fella, actually all over the world!
Loves creeklines and rivers, but is still very drought hardy and the masses of flowers really attract the native bees.
What you are buying is at least 15 freshly picked fully ripe fruit, each containing at least one viable seed.
How it works is I will get the orders and every weekend I go collect some fruit.
I will put the fruit in a labeled baggie, I will carefully package it and send it out first thing Monday morning with all the others.
It will rock up at your place and when it does all you do is straight away remove the fruit from the bag.
Thoroughly wash them rubbing any soft spots, rot, or mouldy flesh off.
Be a bit rough with them as the cleaner the seeds, the less sugars and starches rotting in the soil, the less chance of “damping off” or bacterial and fungal attack later on.
Once you have removed any damaged areas and and remove as much of the fruit flesh as is possible, just plant them in a nice well drained very sandy soil mix about 2cm deep, water and wait.
Germination only takes a few weeks normally.
You may want to use a sterile medium or an anti-fungal to stop damping off issues but I never bother and have near 100% germination.
Please note that using a sandy well draining soil is vital in my opinion.
Most commercial seed raising mixes and potting mixes lack sand and are high in pine bark holding too much water for this fella.
A cactus style mix is much better.
Why do I pick and send it whole in the fruit, instead of drying and storing them like most other species?
Seed of this species older than a few months, or seed that has had the fruit skin pierced or removed before storage has a greatly reduced germination.
I will only send these difficult to store seeds like this, and they will only be available while the fruit is available.
If I go out to pick your order and the bats or critters have eaten them all, then you will be refunded immediately.
This will happen at the end of the season and it is not really avoidable so please understand if it is you that misses out.
You will not get fresher seeds anywhere, but due to the specific germination needs of this species please look at germination as a gamble.
If you can not afford to fail then please choose an easier more reliable species.
When thoroughly washed, fresh seeds I get a near 100% strike rate but poor drainage, fungal attack and rotten fruit pieces not being cleaned off before planting can mean a ZERO% strike rate.
This means you may fail and you should consider these guys a gamble.
Don’t buy them if you don’t accept the possibility of failure as there are lots of other folks on the waiting list happy to take a punt.
Know by Waterhousia floribunda, Waterhousea floribunda, Syzigium floribunda and most commonly Weeping lillypilly.
