Sea Celery Seaside Parsley Apium Prostratum Seeds
Packet of 100+ fresh home grown seeds!
This native bushtucker species is really becoming big in the restaurant trade lately and you have no doubt see it on various TV cooking shows.
It is found growing around the entire coast line of Australia and provided you give it a nice sandy soil mix, and are happy to wait around a month for germination then you really can’t go wrong.
As the name suggests it has a flavour just like mild parsley, and a growth that resembles a finer lacier celery leaf.
It actually is a relative of celery. As such it’s great in soups, stocks, stews, salads, pasta dishes, pretty much everything.
Chopped fine and mixed with salt it makes a great rub for roasted or grilled meats and fish. The main ingredient in pretty much all of those commercially available “Bush Food Spice” mixes you see at the supermarket these days.
It even looks nice with a steady flow of pretty white flowers for most of the year.
Early explorers like Captain Cook relied heavily on it as a scurvy preventative, and later the colonists did too.
Unlike European Celery this fella can handle salty saline soils, meaning once established you can water it with saline bore or recycled grey water, and grow it easily in areas that nothing else but pigface would normally survive.
It’s great stuff, there really are no reasons not to have it in the collection.
The fact that it is a native species is just the icing on the cake.
Grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no problems!!!
