Yellow Dent Indian Corn Zea Mays Seeds
Packet of 20+ homegrown seeds!
I originally got this variety of seeds in trade and have to say they are pretty damn cool.
Bit hard to see in the pictures, but the grain themselves have bright golden yellow colour with a pink to red stripe or two, here and there.
They are a staple grain to many cultures, and this variety is low brix (sugars) and high starches and protein.
These are not a hybrid “Sweet corn”, and unlike them, these beauties can be grown year after year forever, without affecting the quality or yield.
They breed true to form, unlike all the other modern hybrids and supermarket corn.
Perfect for popping, just add a splash of oil and salt in a pot, same as the supermarket ones. Ground and used for flour in tortillas and pita breads, or soaked whole in a little wood ash or lye and then chopped or ground into grits.
Also good when still really tiny, just used whole Asian style.
About 10cm long is perfect, and if you pick all the lower cobs early and freeze them for later in the year you can really save a few bucks.
Eaten as a normal vegetable pick the cobs when the kernels turn from white to yellow and the tassels just start to brown.
For a grain crop, just let nature do her thing and pick the cobs when the plant dies off.
That’s about it.
Grown by us organically, no chems, no nasties, no dramas!!!
