Blue Hopi Corn Maize Seeds Zea Mays
Packet of 20+ homegrown seeds!
I originally got this variety of seeds from a friend and regular customer of ours, and I am very happy to have them in the collection!
Medium sized plants with small to medium sized cobs, and really attractive small colored kernels.
When it is young they really do look blue, bright blue actually, but this darkens up to a royal blue almost purple colour as the grain ripens.
We ate some small Asian style and they were just as good as the ones you get frozen at the supermarket, except they were kinda blue in colour!
This variety is low brix (sugars) and high in starches and proteins, meaning it is best eaten young and tender, or fully ripened for popping or making flour from, like the Hopi Indians originally did.
They are not a modern hybrid “Sweet corn”, and being heirlooms these beauties can be grown year after year forever, without affecting the quality or yield.
They breed true to form, unlike all the other modern hybrids and supermarket corn.
To make popcorn just wait until the cobs are totally ripe and dry, then fry on high heat in a saucepan with a little oil and butter, just as the supermarket ones.
Anyway, grown by me and the Mrs organically, no chems, no nasties, no dramas!!!
